10-point demands
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced 10-point demands, including the release of the BNP Chairperson, the resignation of the ruling government, and the dissolution of the current National Parliament.
1. The government resigns by dissolving the National Parliament.
2. Formation of a neutral caretaker government/interim caretaker government in 1996 in accordance with clauses b, c and d of Article 58 of the Constitution.
3. The caretaker government must form an impartial election commission that will ensure a level playing field for all parties; the use of EVMs and party symbols in local government elections will be abolished.
4. The sentences of all opposition party leaders and activists, journalists and religious scholars, including Khaleda Zia, must be quashed; all 'false cases' filed against them as per the 10-point demands must be withdrawn, freedom of speech must be ensured, and the arbitrary arrest of opposition party leaders and activists must stop.
5. All black laws including the Digital Security Act 2018, the Anti-Terrorism Act 2009 and the Special Powers Act 1974 must be repealed.
6. The anti-people decision to increase the prices of public services including electricity, fuel, gas, and water must be repealed.
7. Bringing the prices of essential commodities within the purchasing power of the common people and de-syndicate the market for essential commodities.
8. Ensure the rescue of all citizens who have been disappeared in the last 15 years, and ensure legal justice and punishment for every incident of extrajudicial killings and state torture, and ensure punishment for those responsible for vandalizing homes, places of worship and seizing property of religious minorities.
9. Form a commission to identify corruption in all sectors of the state, including money laundering abroad, the banking and financial sectors, the power and fuel sectors, and the stock market, over the past 15 years.
10. To enable the law enforcement agencies, administration and judiciary to perform their duties with institutional discipline and professionalism, and to provide them with the opportunity to work independently, free from government interference.
