The 19-point program is a political, economic and socio-economic development program given on April 30, 1977 by the former President of Bangladesh and founder of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), martyred President Ziaur Rahman.
Martyr President Ziaur Rahman formulated the following 19-point program for the socio-economic development of the country:
To protect the independence, integrity and sovereignty of the country at all costs.
The four fundamental principles of the constitution, namely complete faith and trust in Almighty Allah, democracy, nationalism, and socialism of social and economic justice, are to be reflected in all aspects of national life.
To build ourselves into a self-reliant nation by all means.
Ensuring public participation in all levels of administration, development activities and maintenance of law and order.
Strengthening the rural and national economy through agricultural development on the basis of highest priority.
To make the country self-sufficient in food and ensure that no one goes hungry.
To increase the production of cloth in the country and ensure the supply of at least thick cloth for everyone.
To make every possible effort to ensure that no citizen is left homeless.
To free the country from the curse of illiteracy.
To provide minimum medical care for all citizens.
To establish the due status of women in society and to motivate the youth to build the nation by uniting them.
Providing necessary encouragement to the private sector for the economic development of the country.
To develop healthy labor-owner relations in the interest of improving the conditions of workers and increasing production.
To encourage public service and nation-building among government employees and to improve their financial condition.
Preventing population explosion.
To build friendship with all foreign countries on the basis of equality and to strengthen relations with Muslim countries.
Decentralize administration and development systems and strengthen local governments.
Establish a corruption-free, justice-based social system.
To fully protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of religion, caste, or tribe, and to strengthen national unity and solidarity.
