Coming back from near death on July 19, 2024…

Last year, July 19 was Friday. The first day of broadband and mobile internet shutdown across the country. BNP had a protest rally scheduled at the Press Club at 3 pm after Jumma prayers. After prayers, on my way to the Press Club with Chhatra Dal leaders and activists, I was attacked by police, RAB and Chhatra League-Juba League terrorists in Bijoynagar area. We were shot at from three sides. We entered Culvert Road and started throwing bricks and stones in return. BNP's Central Deputy Mass Education Affairs Secretary Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon Bhai and Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo Dal Member Secretary Rabiul Islam Nayan Bhai played a brave role with us. They repeatedly brought together the leaders and activists who were separated in the face of the attack!
At one point, I was hit by a rubber bullet. The bullet from a Chinese rifle entered the hand of Millad Hossain, the member secretary of Dhaka College Chhatra Dal, who was with me, from one side and came out from the other. Fakhrul Islam Fahad, the vice-president of the Metropolitan North Chhatra Dal, was hit in the face by a Chinese rifle bullet.
At the same time, Dhaka College Chhatra Dal convener Imran was seriously injured in a bullet and is still admitted to Pangu Hospital. He is fighting death every moment. 24 years have passed, and it is July 19, 2025! He has not been released from the hospital in the last one year.
We have seen death very closely! Five of our fellow soldiers, who had come out with a smile on their faces, promising to return home from their loved ones, have been martyred today in this incident. Fortunately, we saw death very closely that day and came back alive. It is like getting a second life. For that, I thank the Almighty God.
There is no forgiveness for those who robbed us of our sleep, crushed our dreams and kept our power in their laps... We acknowledge our debt to those whose lives we lost to gain this new Bangladesh and reiterate our commitment to building the Bangladesh dreamed of by the July martyrs.
Nasir Uddin Nasir
General Secretary, Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal, Central Parliament
